The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the heavens and al-tariq. 1 How will you comprehend what the night star is? 2 It is the star that pierces through [life's] darkness: 3 No soul is there but hath over it a watcher. 4 So let man look - from what is he created. 5 Created from a gushing fluid. 6 emanating from between the loins and the ribs. 7 God has certainly power to bring him back from the dead. 8 on the Day when consciences are examined, 9 and he shall have no strength, no helper. 10 By the heaven with its recurring cycle of rain, 11 and the replenishing earth, 12 Most surely it is a decisive word, 13 not a flippant jest. 14 Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad) 15 and I am cunningly devising. 16 So bear with unbelievers with patience, and give them respite for a while. 17
