Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In a high Garden 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 And cushions lined up 15 And carpets spread out. 16 Do they not look at the Camels, how they are made?- 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their turning back, 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
