The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked around, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
