A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Mim-Sad. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. 1 This is a Book sent down toward thee, so let there be no straitness in thy breast therefor, that thou mayest warn thereby! and this is an admonition unto the believers. 2 (Saying): Follow that which is sent down unto you from your Lord, and follow no protecting friends beside Him. Little do ye recollect! 3 And how many a township We have destroyed, upon them Our violence came at night or while they were taking their midday rest. 4 And when Our scourge fell upon them their only cry was: 'We are indeed transgressors.' 5 We will certainly question the people and the Messengers sent to them. 6 Then We will surely relate [their deeds] to them with knowledge, and We were not [at all] absent. 7 The balance that day will be true (to nicety): those whose scale (of good) will be heavy, will prosper: 8 And whosesoever balances will be light - those are they who have lost themselves in respect of Our signs. 9 And surely, We gave you authority on the earth and appointed for you therein provisions (for your life). Little thanks do you give. 10
