The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 This fellow-man of yours has not gone astray, nor is he deluded, 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
