۞ When the heaven breaks apart. 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty, 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it. 6 Then as to him who shall be given his book in his right hand 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 And he will return to his family rejoicing. 9 But as for him whose record shall be given to him behind his back; 10 shall call for destruction 11 and will enter the Blazing Fire. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 And [by] the moon when it becomes full 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 So give them good tidings of a painful chastisement, 24 Except those who believed and did good deeds – for them is a reward that will never end. 25
