(Recount to them about the time) when Your Lord called Moses: "Go to the wrong-doing people, 10 the people of Pharaoh, will they not fear God? 11 Moses replied, "My Lord, I fear they will reject me, 12 My breast is constricted and my tongue is not fluent, so endow Messengership on Aaron. 13 And they have upon me a [claim due to] sin, so I fear that they will kill me." 14 Said He: "Not so, indeed! Go forth, then, both of you, with Our messages: verily, We shall be with you, listening [to your call]! 15 Go, then, to Pharaoh and say to him: 'The Lord of the Universe has sent us 16 ‘That you let the Descendants of Israel go with us.’” 17 Fir'awn said: brought we not thee up amongst us as a child? And thou tarriedst amongst us for many years of thy life? 18 "And thou didst a deed of thine which (thou knowest) thou didst, and thou art an ungrateful (wretch)!" 19 He (Moses) replied: 'Indeed, I did that when I was among those who stray. 20 Then I ran away from you in fear, but my Lord granted me the law and has appointed me as a Messenger. 21 Is this then the blessing with which you reproach me, that you have the Children of Israel for worshipers' 22 The Pharaoh asked: "And what is the Lord of all the worlds?" 23 He said, 'The Lord of the heavens and earth, and what between them is, if you have faith.' 24 Pharaoh said to those around him: "Do you hear (what he says)?" 25 [And Moses] continued: "[He is] your Sustainer, [too,] as well as the Sustainer of your forefathers of old!" 26 (Pharaoh) said: "Truly your messenger who has been sent to you is a veritable madman!" 27 [But Moses] went on: "[He of whom I speak is] the Sustainer of the east and the west and of all that is between the two - as you would know]" if you would but use your reason!" 28 Said he, 'If thou takest a god other than me, I shall surely make thee one of the imprisoned.' 29 [Moses] said, "Even if I brought you proof manifest?" 30 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Bring it forth then, if you are of the truthful!" 31 So (Moses) cast his staff, and lo, it turned into a living serpent. 32 Then he uncovered his hand and it was sheer white to the onlookers. 33
