In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Sad. I swear by the Quran, which is full of reminders of God, (that you are a Messenger). 1 But the unbelievers are still full of pride and hostility. 2 How many generations We have destroyed before them! And they cried out when it was too late to escape. 3 And they marvel that there should come unto them a warner from among themselves. And the infidels say: this is a magician and a liar! 4 Has he turned so many gods into one deity? This is indeed a strange thing!" 5 The chiefs among them departed saying: go, and persevere in your gods; verily this is a thing designed. 6 We never heard of it in the former faith. It is surely a fabrication. 7 Has this Exhortation been sent down among us only to him, to the exclusion of all others?” Nay, they are in doubt regarding My Exhortation, and are saying all this because they have not yet had any taste of My chastisement. 8 Do they possess the treasures of the mercy of your, (Muhammad's), Lord, the Majestic and Munificent God? 9 Or is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them theirs? Then let them ascend by ropes! 10 Here there is a host of the confederates only to be defeated. 11 The people of Noah denied before them, and [the tribe of] 'Aad and Pharaoh, the owner of stakes, 12 And Thamud, and the people of Lut, and the Companions of the Wood; - such were the Confederates. 13 Not one of them but belied the Messengers, therefore My Torment was justified, 14
