The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
