He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and in awe [of God] 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
