He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And hath fear, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and purified. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and palms 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing and joyous 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
