Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The Inevitable Calamity! 1 What is the Inevitable Hour? 2 And what do you know what that indubitable event is? 3 The Thamud and 'Ad denied the consequential calamity. 4 So destroyed were the Thamud by a storm of thunder and lightning; 5 as for Aad, they were destroyed by a howling, violent wind 6 which He let loose upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession; so that (if you had been there) you might have seen people lying prostrate, as though they were uprooted trunks of hollowed palm trees. 7 Can you see any of their survivors? 8 And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the Cities Overthrown, committed habitual Sin. 9 And they disobeyed their Lord's Messenger, so He punished them with a strong punishment. 10 When the water rose in flood, We bore you in the ark, 11 That We might make it a Message unto you, and that ears (that should hear the tale and) retain its memory should bear its (lessons) in remembrance. 12 Hence, [bethink yourselves of the Last Hour,] when the trumpet [of judgment] shall be sounded with a single blast, 13 when the earth with all its mountains is lifted up and crushed with a single blow, 14 On that day shall the great event come to pass, 15 And the heaven will split asunder – so on that day it will be unstable. 16 and the angels will stand on the sides, with eight of them bearing aloft the Throne of your Lord on that Day. 17 On that Day you shall be exposed, and no secret of yours will remain hidden. 18 Then as to him who will be vouchsafed his book in his right hand, he shall say: here! read my book! 19 Surely I knew that I shall meet my account. 20 And so he will find himself in a happy state of life, 21 In a Garden lofty. 22 Whereof the clusters are in easy reach. 23 'Eat and drink with wholesome appetite for that you did long ago, in the days gone by.' 24 And he that will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "Ah! Would that my Record had not been given to me! 25 Nor that I knew my reckoning! 26 Oh, would that this [death of mine] had been the end of me! 27 My riches have availed me not; 28 my authority is gone from me.' 29 [Thereupon the command will go forth:] "Lay hold of him, and shackle him, 30 Then cast him to be burnt in Hell; 31 then fasten him with a chain, seventy cubits long. 32 “Indeed he refused to accept faith in Allah, the Greatest.” 33 nor would he urge the feeding of the poor. 34 So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend 35 Nor any food save filthy corruption. 36 Which none but the hellish eat." 37
