The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the heaven shall become like unto dregs of oil. 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 They will live in gardens with honour. 35
