The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 and all those on earth. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 and it will claim all those who turned their backs [on the true faith] and turned away [from the truth], 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 But not so the worshippers 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
