The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 arise, and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
