He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to him thou attendest 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and fearfully, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
