The Sun (Al-Shams)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 and the moon as it reflects the sun! 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 And inspired it with the wickedness thereof and the piety thereof, 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 And he who confines it will surely come to grief. 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 when their arch-criminal rose up in rage. 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)! 14 And He does not fear its coming behind (to take vengeance). 15
