The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Mount 1 and a Book inscribed 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 Enter into it, then bear (it) patiently, or do not bear (it) patiently, it is the same to you; you shall be requited only (for) what you did. 16 Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. 19 They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
