The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the declining star, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) (mind and) heart in no way falsified that which he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
