The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
