The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ A. L. M. 1 The Romans have been defeated (by the Persians) 2 In a nearer land; and they, after the overcoming of them, shall soon overcome. 3 In some few years. Allah's is the command, before and after. And on that day the believers will rejoice. 4 In Allah's help to victory. He helpeth to victory whom He will. He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 It is a promise of God; and God does not go back on His promise. Yet most men do not understand: 6 They know only the visible worldly life; and are totally neglectful of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not reflect in their own minds? Not but for just ends and for a term appointed, did Allah create the heavens and the earth, and all between them: yet are there truly many among men who deny the meeting with their Lord (at the Resurrection)! 8 Do they not travel in the land, and see what was the end of those before them? They were superior to them in strength, and they tilled the earth and populated it in greater numbers than these (pagans) have done, and there came to them their Messengers with clear proofs. Surely, Allah wronged them not, but they used to wrong themselves. 9 Then the end of those that did evil was evil, for that they cried lies to the signs of God and mocked at them. 10
