The Moon (Al-Qamar)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. 1 Yet, when they see a sign they [who deny the truth] turn their backs and say, "The same old sorcery!" 2 They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time. 3 And indeed the news which had a lot of deterrence, came to them. 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day." 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 And We left it for a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 Aad too belied. How then were My punishment and My warnings! 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 22
