Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions lined up 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
