Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And the ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 into My Paradise. 30
