The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 And by Nafs (Adam or a person or a soul, etc.), and Him Who perfected him in proportion; 7 And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right;- 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 What time the greatest wretch of them rose up. 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
