The chiefs of Firon's people said: most surely this is an enchanter possessed of knowledge: 109 and said, "He wants to expel you from your land." They asked (others), " what is your opinion in the matter? 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 That they may bring to thee every magician knowing. 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 'Yes' he answered, 'and you will be among those near' 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He said, “You throw”; when they threw, they cast a magic spell upon the people’s eyes and terrified them, and they brought a great magic. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 And the wizards fell down prostrate, 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 Surely I shall have your hands and feet cut off upon alternate sides. Then I shall crucify you every one. 124 They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
