The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
