The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And raised couches. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
