The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 but, We see it as near! 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 tearing away his skin! 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Not so those devoted to Prayer;- 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
