The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
WHEN THE SUN is folded up, 1 When the stars fall, losing their lustre; 2 and when the mountains are moved, 3 The ten-month pregnant female camels are abandoned, 4 And when the wild beasts are herded together, 5 And when the seas are filled with flame 6 And when the souls he paired, 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 For what sin she was slain, 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 And when the sky is torn away, 11 and Hell is stoked, 12 And when the Garden shall be brought nigh, 13 (Then) shall each soul know what it has put forward. 14 But nay! I swear by the stars, 15 That run their course (and) hide themselves, 16 and sit during the day, or by the darkening night 17 And by oath of the morning when it takes birth. 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 who is honored in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 One (to be) obeyed, and faithful in trust. 21 And (O people) your companion (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is not a madman; 22 he truly saw him on the clear horizon; 23 And he is of the unseen not a tenacious concealer. 24 The Quran is not the word of condemned satan. 25 So where are you going? 26 It is nothing but Good Counsel for everyone in the world, 27 for whosoever of you who would go straight; 28 but your wishing will not avail unless Allah, the Lord of the Universe, so wishes. 29
