The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 or orders piety? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
