۞ And strike for them a similitude: two men. To one of them We assigned two gardens of vines, and surrounded them with palm-trees, and between them We set a sown field; 32 Each of the gardens yielded its fruit and did not withhold the least; and We made a stream flow in between them. 33 so the owner had fruit in abundance and he said to his neighbour, while conversing with him: "I have greater wealth than you and I am stronger than you in numbers." 34 And when, having wronged himself, he entered his garden, he said: 'I do not think that this will ever perish! 35 Nor do I think that the Hour will come. Even if I returned to my Lord, I should surely find a better place than this' 36 Disputing with him, his companion said: "Do you disbelieve in Him who created you from dust, then a drop of semen, then formed you into a man? 37 But as for me, He, Allah, is my Lord, and I do not associate anyone with my Lord. 38 When entering your garden, you should have said, "This is what God willed; All Power belongs to Him. Even if you consider me inferior to yourself in wealth and offspring, 39 yet it may well be that my Sustainer will give me something better than thy garden - just as He may let loose a calamity out of heaven upon this [thy garden,] so that it becomes a heap of barren dust 40 or the water of your vineyard will be drained deep into the ground so that you will not be able to seek it out." 41 And his fruits were surrounded – he therefore remained helplessly wringing his hands upon all that he had spent on it – and it lay fallen on its canopy – and he says, “If only I had not ascribed any partner to my Lord!” 42 He had no party to help him against God, nor was he able to defend himself. 43 In this case is protection only from Allah, the True, He is Best for reward, and best for consequence. 44
