The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 arise and give warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And your garments purify! 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
