He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 with darkness overspread: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
