The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 And when the earth is spread out 3 and casts out all that is within it and becomes empty; 4 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 Then, he who is given his Book in his right hand 7 will be easy, 8 and he shall return to his people, joyfully, 9 And as to him who shall be given his book from behind his back 10 he shall call for destruction 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yes indeed, his Lord was ever watching him. 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 You will surely go up level by level. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 And, when the Qur'an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah)? ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 And Allah well knows what they conceal in their hearts. 23 So give them tidings of a painful doom, 24 except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. 25
