The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and continuous shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For those on the right hand; 38
