The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 and purify your robes, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And children present [with him] 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
