The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And all abomination shun! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
