The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous - see V. 2:2) will be far removed from it (Hell). 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise). 21
