Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ayn. Sad. 1 Commemorate the beneficence of your Lord on Zachariah, His devotee, 2 When he called to his Lord inwardly, 3 and said, "My Lord, my bones have become feeble and my hair has turned white with age. Yet I have never been deprived in receiving from You the answer to my prayers. 4 But I fear my relatives after me; and my wife is barren. So grant me a successor as a favour from You 5 Who should inherit me and inherit from the children of Yaqoub, and make him, my Lord, one in whom Thou art well pleased. 6 "O Zachariah," (it was) said, "We give you good news of a son by name of John.' To none have We attributed the name before." 7 'How shall I have a son, Lord' he asked, 'when my wife is barren, and I am advanced in years' 8 Allah said: even so! Thy Lord saith: it is unto Me easy, whereas surely I created thee afore when thou wast not aught. 9 He said: My Lord! Appoint for me some token. He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shalt not speak unto mankind three nights. 10 Then Zachariah came forth from the shrine to his people and told them by signs to glorify the Lord morning and evening. 11 (It was said to his son): "O Yahya (John)! Hold fast the Scripture [the Taurat (Torah)]." And We gave him wisdom while yet a child. 12 And compassion from Us, and goodness. So he was devout, 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant. 14 So Peace on him the day he was born the day that he dies and the day that he will be raised up to life (again)! 15
