The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 When you lay hands upon anyone, you do so as tyrants. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
