The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the sky is rent asunder 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 and when the earth is leveled, 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O man, indeed you have to surely run towards your Lord, and to meet him. 6 he who is given his record in his right hand 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 and will return rejoicing to his family. 9 But whoso is given his account behind his back, 10 He surely will invoke destruction 11 but he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 Nay; I swear by the twilight; 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 And by the moon when she is at the full, 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 So give them good tidings of a painful chastisement, 24 Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. 25
