The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 save those that pray 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
