He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
