He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And he feareth 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive and palm trees 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
