The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: Lo! this is some knowing wizard, 109 Who would expel you from your land. Now what do ye advise? 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (for a time), and send callers (men) to the cities to collect (and) - 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said, "We must have our reward if we are to gain a victory over him (Moses)". 113 He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 Pharaoh and his men were defeated and put to shame, 119 and the magicians flung themselves prostrate, 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 And you do not take revenge on us except because we have believed in the communications of our Lord when they came to us! Our Lord: Pour out upon us patience and cause us to die in submission. 126
