He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and fearfully, 9 You neglect. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
