The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)

In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate

Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
