The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and spreading shade 30 and flowing water 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
