He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and in awe [of God] 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Not this way - this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 In honoured pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
