He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
